AV Security Suite
From Wiki-Security, the free encyclopedia of computer security
AV Security Suite is a scam. It is a rogue anti-spyware software, and it can't do anything beneficial for your computer. AV Security Suite is closely related to other rogue anti-spyware applications such as Antivirus Live, Antivirus Soft, Antivirus Suite, and (obviously) AV Security Suite Platinum. AV Security Suite began causing infections in June and July 2010, but because it is just one member of a long-standing family of malicious programs, the threat presented by AV Security Suite is still out there.
AV Security Suite's Scare TacticsAV Security Suite does all the typical things that rogue anti-spyware applications do. It will run when Windows runs, claim that it is running a “scan,” and tell you it found a bunch of viruses. The threats that AV Security Suite claims to find are not really there; it only claims to have found them in order to scare you. AV Security Suite will also generate a ton of “nag screens,” which are phony error message windows that will make over-the-top warnings about things it says are wrong with your computer (For some reason, AV Security Suite will often claim to have found 34 specific threats. It also frequently uses the phrase, “Attention! Spyware Alert!”). AV Security Suite may also prevent you from running other programs, and may disable your actual security software. Additionally, to make its warnings seem realistic, AV Security Suite may slow down your computer considerably.
The goal of everything that AV Security Suite does is to scare you into paying money. Every bogus error message comes with a prompt which asks you to pay money for a “full” or “licensed” or “activated” version of its software. AV Security Suite wants you to believe that if you pay this money, it will then remove the “threats” it claims to have found, so AV Security Suite will redirect your browser to one of its own websites when you try to go online, and it will also direct you to one its payment page if you click on one of its error messages. Do not pay for AV Security Suite, and do not give your credit card information to any of its websites, because you will be charged and you will not get anything in return.
AV Security Suite often takes people by surprise, since it is very often the result of an infection with a Trojan. What happens is that the Trojan exploits a weakness in some aspect of one of the programs you're running, while you're browsing the Internet, and then it downloads AV Security Suite. AV Security Suite is also known to be associated specifically with some malicious websites, which may offer phony “free scans” or infect your computer without your knowledge. For example, the site “Theatremover.net” is a known malicious site associated with AV Security Suite.
If you find AV Security Suite on your computer, do not believe anything that it tells you, and do not give the scam artists your money. AV Security Suite can be removed and dealt with, but not by paying for its nonexistent protection.
