AntiSpyware Soft is a rogue anti-spyware application from the same family as Antivirus Suite, Antivirus Live, AV Security Suite, and Antivirus Soft. AntiSpyware Soft began to infect large numbers of computers in April 2010. AntiSpyware Soft is a vicious scam which originated in Russia, with the exclusive intention of taking your money.
How the AntiSpyware Soft Infection Begins
The AntiSpyware Soft infection begins in one of two ways. Sometimes, the rogue anti-spyware is downloaded voluntarily – for example, if you are convinced by the scam and think that it is a real software. There are websites that exist just to promote this phony software and get you to buy it. These sites will claim that AntiSpyware Soft is a real software and that it has won several prestigious awards (all of which are made up). Then, these sites will offer you a “free trial” or “free scan” with AntiSpyware Soft. When you let the site run the “scan,” or decide to download the bogus “free trial,” what actually happens is that AntiSpyware Soft is downloaded onto your computer. Since AntiSpyware Soft has nothing to offer and can't actually scan for threats or fix anything, once it is on your computer, its intent is entirely malicious. The other path to an infection with AntiSpyware Soft isfor your computer to become infected with a Trojan, without your knowledge. The Trojan may be extremely well hidden, in a program update, a browser extension, a video codec, etc. Once the Trojan downloads onto your computer, it opens a backdoor and downloads AntiSpyware Soft. From there, the symptoms of an AntiSpyware Soft infection are always the same.
AntiSpyware Soft Symptoms
AntiSpyware Soft begins by changing some of your computer's settings. It will alter the registry so that the AntiSpyware Soft rogue software runs whenever Windows runs and starts as soon as Windows boots. AntiSpyware Soft will also set itself up as a proxy in Internet Explorer, so that whenever you try to connect to the Internet, AntiSpyware Soft steps in and stops you. In its efforts to protect itself, AntiSpyware Soft will prevent any program other than itself or Internet Explorer from running. All of this will be in place the first time you start Windows after the infection takes hold. One of AntiSpyware Soft's mainscare tactics is to try to convince you that your computer has viruses which it actually does not. So when AntiSpyware Soft starts, it will pop up with a fake “scan” screen, and then tell you it found a huge number of viruses. All of these are fake. Then AntiSpyware Soft will tell you that in order to remove the “threats” that it found, you must activate (i.e. pay for) your copy of AntiSpyware Soft.
AntiSpyware Soft will also generate frequent pop-up warning messages that claim that your computer is under attack, or that some imminent threat has been detected. It will frequently claim that your system is infected with viruses called “DisableKey” (it does not exist) and Edge Tech. In any case, no matter what kind of warning AntiSpyware Soft gives you, it will always prompt you to pay for your copy of the software to deal with the threats. If you believe this and follow its prompts, it will take you to a site where you can pay with a credit card. The site will take your money, but absolutely nothing will change otherwise. AntiSpyware Soft will continue to claim it has found threats and that you need to pay up to remove them.
Paying the money does not cause AntiSpyware Soft to go away or to engage in any kind of useful function. Also, paying the money is not your only option; AntiSpyware Soft is the threat, not the solution, and it can be removed.
