Antivirus Live is a rogue anti-virus program and a scam; therefore, it should must not be trusted. Antivirus Live began infecting computers on a large scale in December 2009, although it may have begun spreading earlier in the year. Antivirus Live is from the same family of rogue anti-virus programs as Antivirus System PRO and Spyware Protect 2009. Newer members of the same family include AntiSpyware Soft, Antivirus Suite, and AV Security Suite.

The Misleading Tactics Antivirus Live Does

Antivirus Live behaves in ways that are completely typical of rogue anti-virus applications, and essentially the same as all of the other malicious programs in its family. It may be downloaded voluntarily from a website that is a hoax or a scam, or it may be secondary by using a Trojan that downloads without your knowledge or consent and then downloads Antivirus Live through a backdoor. Either way, Antivirus Live will change the registry so that it runs whenever Windows runs, and change your proxy settings so that it can interfere with Internet Explorer every single time you try to look at anything online. That way, Antivirus Live can protect itself from removal by preventing you from accessing any websites but its own, and block those other sites by claiming that they are “malicious” or “infected.”

You will see a similar result when you try to open any program other than Internet Explorer, because Antivirus Live will prevent anything else from opening by claiming that the program in question is infected with a virus. These warnings should sound suspicious when it becomes clear that Antivirus Live is reporting that every program on your computer is infected!

Of course, this is just one of the scare tactics that Antivirus Live employs. It will also do fake system scans and then say that the only way to remove all of the bogus “threats” it found is to pay to “activate” its software. If you don't fall for that, Antivirus Live will cause pop-ups to appear almost constantly, warning that your system is under some kind of crazy-sounding attack. All of these warnings will prompt you to pay money to remove the threats from the computer, and should you follow any of the prompts, Antivirus Live will take (LEAD) you to a website that will take your money. That part is real enough, but then Antivirus Live gives you nothing in return for that payment.

Other Tricks Used By Antivirus Live

Antivirus Live does a few other things to convince you of its legitimacy, and those things can be quite dangerous. It may impersonate Windows Security Center and generate bogus Windows error messages about your computer not having any antivirus software. Antivirus Live may also intentionally cause your computer to behave poorly and to crash, in order to get to you to believe that your computer really is infected with all the things Antivirus Live says it is. To do this, Antivirus Live may delete some files or prevent legitimate software from accessing RAM.

By now it should be clear that no matter what Antivirus Live claims to offer, and no matter what it may say about your computer's security, Antivirus Live can't be trusted. Do not believe what it tells you, do not give in, and do not pay the money!
