Your Protection is the name of a rogue anti-virus program, and in particular, Your Protection is further categorized as scareware. Do not let the name fool you; Your Protection cannot protect you. It's a scam, and infections with Your Protection can be traced to an origin in Russia in early April 2010. Furthermore, typical of the fact that these rogue anti-virus applications never seem to be anything new, Your Protection is essentially the same malware as Dr. Guard  and User Protection.

How Your Protection Works?

The tactics that Your Protection uses to try to defraud its victims are pretty standard, for the most part. Your Protection usually sneaks its way onto a computer with the help of a Trojan. The way it works is that while you browse the Internet, you come across or download a file that seems harmless, like a plugin or update, and the Trojan is hidden in that file. Once the Trojan is on your computer, it downloads Your Protection. Then Your Protection goes to work trying to scare you, while it hampers your ability to use your computer.

The most noticeable things about Your Protection are its bogus interface and its constant warning messages. Your Protection has this fake home screen, which is very bare-bones and uses a lot of gray, but which nonetheless tries to look as if it is the home screen of a real anti-virus program. There  is even a phone number in the lower left, which you are supposed to be able to call for live support –- but the number is as fake as everything else about Your Protection. It's unregistered, with an area code and prefix assigned to Gary, Indiana. So, forget about calling for "live support".

The home screen is also the location of some of the fake warnings about infections, since it is where Your Protection will run its fake system scans. These fake scans are accompanied by fake lists of results, which will always claim that Your Protection found some very dangerous viruses on your computer. The pop-up warnings that Your Protection frequently causes make similar false claims, and will tell you that your computer is being attacked by someone trying to steal your passwords, or that your computer has become infected with an especially dangerous virus that was just detected. No matter how the fake warnings are presented, they come with the recommendation that you buy the "full" version of Your Protection in order to deal with the supposed threats.

A Word of Caution About Your Protection

One extra feature that Your Protection has which helps to make it extra dangerous is that it will disable your real anti-virus software and even attempt to uninstall it! This obviously leaves your computer open to all kinds of other infections. Ironically, Your Protection actively works towards the opposite of what it says it does, and encourages more parasites to infect the system.

Your Protection ultimately has nothing to offer, since even if you purchase a license for it, it behaves in the same way and does not ever gain the ability to do anything useful. Your Protection cannot scan for viruses, perceive threats, or do anything about threats. Also, remember that you do not have to pay money to the con-artists who made Your Protection in order to remove it from your computer!
